ABOUT US
ACTIVE VITALITY
Falls and many chronic diseases are preventable!
My story is that I watched my dad stop moving, he was scared to fall, which is one of the biggest risk factors for falling. Once he stopped moving, his life expectancy diminished. He also had other co-morbidities from lifestyle, diet and not exercising.
I have a masters in Exercise Science/Sports Medicine and Education. I am a certified National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Personal Trainer along with multiple other certifications, including Senior Fitness and Cancer Exercise Specialist.
The one positive aspect that came out of the pandemic is that you learned to use technology to communicate, exercise, and keep in touch. Virtual participants in our Active Aging classes love how they can log into class, not having to worry about parking, paying for gas, and having the flexibility to be at home.My mission is to keep our baby boomers and elderly population moving so they can live their best lives!
It’s never too late to start!
More good news is that physical activity has major health benefits no matter what age you start – luckily for those who have avoided exercise most of their lives! Plus, research shows that regular exercise is also safe for older adults who are frail or in poor health. Even gentle exercise, like low-intensity walking, can be incredibly beneficial.
Regular exercise is important throughout life – though it becomes even more important with age. Exercise is the most important factor in promoting a high health-related quality of life in our later years. It not only improves physical and mental functions but can reverse the effects of chronic disease.
This is because, as well as improving muscle strength and balance, regular exercise can also boost heart health and energy levels, help us maintain a healthy weight, and reduce the risk of various health conditions. Such as:
-
Heart Disease
-
Stroke
-
High Blood Pressure
-
High Cholesterol
-
Joint and Muscular pain
-
Type 2 Diabetes
-
Alzheimer’s Disease
-
Cancers
-
Osteoporosis
